Usually, Cameroon is said to be the Central African Nation located on the Golf of Guinea. After self Government was granted to Cameroon there became two separate educational systems.

Cameroon is officially known as the Republic of Cameroon and it is one of those countries situated in Central Africa.

The Republic of Cameroon has countries like Nigeria, Chad, CAR, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and the Republic of Congo surrounding it.

Cameroon’s strategic crossroads and its strategic position make it sometimes be identified as part of West Africa and other times as Central Africa.

There are over 250 languages spoken by over 20 million people in Cameroon.

Education System in Cameroon

Before we continue on medical schools in Cameroon, it is very vital to know that French has been considered to be the primary language of instruction amidst other local languages in Cameroon.

The educational system of Cameroon is such that has fewer girls than there are boys.

The two separate educational systems are:

Faculty of medicine and biomedical sciences Yaoundé( University of Yaoundé)

Faculty of medicine and biomedical sciences Yaoundé was established in the year 1993 as a result of the reform of Universities.

Faculty of medicine and biomedical sciences Yaoundé is in the University of Yaoundé . It succeeded the University center for Health sciences.

Their innovative curriculum keeps attracting the attention of the international community and consequently has prompted the UNDP to fund a medical school at least for the first time together with the World Health Organization.

Department of Medicine:

In this department you obtain BSc Physiotherapy. It is a degree program that lasts for about four years for the purpose of enhanced healing and fitness.

Department of Nursing

A) BSc Nursing

You can obtain BSc Nursing upon completion of your studies.

For Candidates who have A/Levels, it is three years program in two subjects including biology.

However, if you have an HND in Nursing before applying, you are promoted to the third year once offered admission.

There are employment opportunities Nationally as well as internationally as practical Nurses.

B) MSc Reproductive Health

This is a two-year program for candidates who have obtained their BSc in Nursing.

C) BSc Food Science and Nutrition

For Candidates who have A/Levels, it is a two-year program in biology and chemistry.

Faculty of medicine and pharmaceutical sciences Douala( University of Douala)

Faculty of medicine and pharmaceutical sciences Douala was created in the year 2006 with its first set of medical doctors graduating in the year 2013. In the first year of school, there were just 100 students studying medicine and just 60 in Pharmacy, compared to now where the numbers have multiplied.

Faculty of medicine and pharmaceutical sciences Douala is one of the medical schools in Cameroon which is in the University of Douala.

In the University of Douala, there are over 40,000 students and 600 administrators.

Faculty of Health sciences Buea( University of Buea)

This is one of the medical schools in Cameroon that had about 53 medical doctors who graduated from the faculty of health sciences as far back as the year 2012.

This is one of the medical schools in Cameroon operating from the main campus and has promised to continue training medical doctors, medico-laboratory technicians, and nurses.

It is equally one of the medical schools in Cameroon that has promised to increase the teaching workforce with constructions underway for a new teaching hospital and residence for students.

80 new medical students will however be trained under the new system.

This is one of the private medical schools in Cameroon with training in human medicine, dental surgery, pharmacy, and medico-sanitary sciences.

This is equally one of the medical schools in Cameroon in University des Montagnes which has three campuses, a library, teaching hospitals.

This teaching hospital will take care of 60 students in pharmacy, 80 students in medicine and 50 in dentistry.

This medical school has graduated over 176 medical doctors as far back as the year 2011.

This university is a few years old and graduated 60 students in its first academic year.

While they are waiting for the recruitment of more staff, it has permanent lecturers and some part-time lecturers.

This is one of the private medical schools in Cameroon found in the Catholic University of Cameroon.

The Catholic University of Cameroon is a private University which is in Bamenda in the North-western region of the country.

The Doctor of medicine degree program gives students the best and makes sure they only graduate committed medical students.
