Harvard’s Master of Psychology is a combination of online and on-campus research that
is surprisingly accessible given the size of the university. How close is it? It costs $17,030, which is significantly cheaper than the average on the list. You do not need to apply (at first). All you have to do is register and take the three graduate courses in Statistics and Psychology and the seminar entitled “Introduction to Graduate Studies and Scientific Writing in the Social Sciences”. Finish all of them with a cumulative total of 3.0 on B and above before applying to the program.

This program requires a minimum of 37 hours of coursework, a first-year research
project, and a second-year dissertation, which students must present and defend.
Course loads include a one-year statistical sequence, a graduate course in research
methods, and a one-year professional development sequence in which students read,
discuss, and analyze the results of other studies. Sounds intense, doesn’t it? At a
minimum, the median of the programs on this list is $17,415.

3. Kansas State University — Manhattan, Kansas

MIOP is a hybrid program that includes online coursework, guided research,
internships, and two-week on-campus classes each summer. (This includes an
introductory course in Industrial / Organizational Psychology and Research Methods,
and ethics and legal issues.) The four online courses are bi-yearly, personnel selection,
performance evaluation, organizational psychology, and Covers basics such as personal training. Students complete an internship (I/O Psychology Study) every fall and
spring during the program.

4. University of Louisiana, Lafayette

This course requires 38 credits, 20 of which are from the core course of ethical and
professional standards such as psychology, research methods, and design. The
dissertation is worth 6 of those 20 credits. In addition, students complete 9 credits of
“Extended Core Courses”, generally high-level courses such as Advanced Cognitive
Psychology. Complete it with nine electives that can be tailored to your student goals,

5. North Carolina University Charlotte

Master of Psychology is also multifaceted, with two options of concentration: community
psychology and cognition. (The third Health Psychology is only available to graduate

exam or a dissertation. Each concentration has a specific course, but all have a 6-hour
“entry” course (advanced social psychology and advanced personality theory) and a 15-
hour core course (advanced abnormal psychology, psychological evaluation). Includes
a 3-hour elective course (such as an overview). And a 3-hour capstone (either a
dissertation or an exam). Intensive courses add 9 credit hours.

7. Old Dominion University

The program requires a minimum of 36 hours of coursework starting with 11 hours of
core classes (Psychology Research Methods, ANOVA and Design of Experiments,
Regression and Correlation Planning). Then, there are 6 hours from the list of

additional 13 hours will come from electives (applied cognitive psychology, clinical
psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, or quantitative and assessment) that can focus on concentration. An additional 6 hours are spent on research and bachelor

8. The New York University

The program consists of 12 courses, including a dissertation or a comprehensive exam.
It begins with two basic courses (statistics and research methods), then three courses

American programs are designed to prepare students for their Ph.D. or research career
through a combination of coursework and laboratory work that the school describes as
“strict” (bold). The 33-credit program offers three disciplines: General Psychology,
