Recently, the Operation Round-Up Board of Directors at Central Texas Electric Cooperative approved a grant to support the HCCAA’s Meals on Wheels Program in Kingsland.   

The Meals on Wheels Program provides seniors that are confined to their homes a hot meal once a day.  They service the Kingsland, Sunrise Beach, Buchanan Dam, Horseshoe Bay, Deer Haven, and Sandy Harbor areas.  They received a grant of $2,500 to support their efforts.

This community action program was developed by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 in an effort to eliminate poverty.

There are several assistance program being offered by them such as the comprehensive energy assistance program and a weatherization assistance program.

The Weatherization Assistance Program provides education and material installation for low-income persons to aid in the reduction of heating and cooling expenses.

Materials such as attic and wall insulation, weather-stripping, door and window repair, caulking, etc. have helped individuals with energy conservation and increased their comfort of living.

The City of Fort Worth provides utilities to its residents.

The city offers a bill assistance program that helps those in need pay their bills.

Fort Worth Water customers can donate to the City of Fort Worth’s Utility Bill Assistance Program. This program is designed to help customers who are having difficulty paying their water/sanitation bills.

The number of customers that can be helped is based on donations. Unfortunately, the need is always larger than donations so frequently funds are not always available to provide assistance.

The Community Action Partners division of the Neighborhood Services Department handles distribution of the funds.

Recipients must be customers of Fort Worth Water and meet 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines.
