It would be impossible to talk about Atlanta’s history of music without mentioning the legend of Outkast. One of the world’s most influential music groups, they gave the world countless songs that would go on to last a lifetime.
More than half of their classic hits were created at their own studio in their beloved hometown, Stankonia.
The Stankonia facility is Bobby Brown’s former Bosstown Studios, where the newly formed Outkast were saving every penny in order to have the opportunity to record.
In 1997, Brown’s Bosstown filed for bankruptcy, and Outkast’s purchase was a business investment.
Upon Outkast’s takeover, their former studio became the home of several famed musical pieces, such as Beyonce’s Dangerously in Love, Jay-Z’s The Blueprint, Nelly’s Nellyville, Usher’s Confessions, and of course Outkast’s own, Stankonia which is ranked at number 64 in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 Best Albums of All Time.
For years, this recording studio in Atlanta has not only been the home of iconic musicians but also provided an arena for budding artists to find fame.
This world-class studio includes 3 state-of-the-art recording studios, a live room, event space, and a unique lounge area.
The walls are adorned with numerous Gold and Platinum records of course including their own certified quadruple-Platinum record, Stankonia.
The space also features plenty of Outkast-inspired photography, art, accolades, plaques, trophies, and other awards, filling it up.
Big Boi owns the studio himself at the moment, but Outkast has literally manifested throughout the building.
5. Super Sound Studios
The history of Super Sound dates back to 1996 when the recording studio Silent Sounds began operations under Daryl Simmons’ management, known best for his collaborations with L.A. Reid and Babyface.

Following 18 months of reconstruction, Silent Sounds were built and received the 1996 Texas Society of Architects award for Interior Architecture.
Despite it only being around for the past 25 years, this studio has provided space for countless songs from today’s and yesteryear’s artists, so when it came up for sale last year, rapper T.I. made sure it was preserved for future generations to enjoy.
