MD- Master of Medicine: The MD program at AIMU consists of 2 phases:
- Basic Science and
- Clinical Science over 4.5 years.
Basic Science of the MD program consists of 5 semesters.
Clinical Science is about 6 semesters.
Students who do not have the required 90 credit hours including the required subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Math, and English are required to complete Pre-Medical courses before matriculating into the MD Program.
The combined Pre-med and MD program is 5.5 years duration.
The Basic Science portion of the MD program is completed in St. Lucia.
After the successful completion of the Basic Science phase, students move on to the Clinical Rotations phase.
The last 2 years of the program can be performed in India (elective rotations), Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, or the USA at our affiliated hospitals.
Their students and graduates are eligible to apply to ECFMG for ECFMG Certification and USMLE® as a step towards ECFMG Certification.
AIMU is listed in WHO (World Health Organization), World Directory of Medical Schools, and by PANHO (Pan American Health Organization).
AIMU is listed with the Medical Council of Canada and students are eligible to appear for Canadian exams.
AIMU students are eligible for the Medical Council of India Screening Test, also known as the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), completion of which will allow the students to practice in India.
Eligibility for MD Program:
The following are prerequisites for entrance into the Doctor of Medicine program:
A total of 90 college credit hours of pre-medical courses are required for admission into the Doctor of Medicine program at AIMU.
1 semester of General and/or Inorganic Chemistry, with a laboratory portion. 1 semester of Organic Chemistry, with a laboratory portion to this class 2 semesters of Biology or Zoology 2 semesters of Physics 2 semesters of English, 2 semesters of Mathematics.
Applicants who have not met the pre-requisite courses to enter the Doctor of Medicine Program will need to complete 4 semesters or 2 semesters of the Pre-Medical Sciences Program as the case may be.

Atlantic University School Of Medicine (AUSOM)
Atlantic University School of Medicine was issued a Charter with the right to confer the degree of Doctor of Medicine and which carries with it eligibility for licensure of said graduates.
This charter was signed by the Minister of Education and Culture for the Government of Saint Lucia, the Honourable Minister Arsene James, and was ratified by the Cabinet of the Ministers for Saint Lucia.

Spartan Health Sciences University
Spartan Health Sciences University, School of Medicine offers a four-year (40 calendar months) academic program leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.) and is taught on a trimester (four months) schedule.
The curriculum of the University’s Doctor of Medicine degree program encompasses a comprehensive course of Basic Sciences, Pre-clinical, bridging curriculum, and Clinical Sciences that is four (4) academic years.
The trimester period commences in January, May, and September of each year. A student may elect to enter any one of the three (3) trimesters.
To provide the best possible medical education to the students, the curriculum is under continuous review by the Deans of Basic and Clinical Sciences in conjunction with the faculty, consultants, and Board of Trustees.
The five trimesters of the Basic Science program are an integrated presentation of the following:

The Bridging Curriculum consists of a series of problem-solving exercises and clinical case studies, some in small group settings, intertwined with the Basic Sciences and Introduction to clinical sciences.
Students will apply acquired basic science knowledge to pre-clinical science topics using critical decision-making techniques.
They will also engage in a sequential process involving:

The challenges of increased demands in the clinical curriculum and the emphasis on the integration of basic and clinical data in modern medical education necessitate the addition of a fifth trimester to the existing on-island curriculum.
The inclusion of a fifth trimester with an organ-system review and expansion of the basic-clinical sciences interrelationships will better prepare our students for their clinical experiences and U.S.M.L.E. examinations.
Organ system review of the basic sciences in the fifth trimester will prepare students to meet the challenges facing modern medical education.
All students are required to demonstrate competency in the basic medical sciences before being permitted to begin clinical rotations.
Competency is assessed from the University administered and required Comprehensive Exit Examination at the end of the Basic Sciences program and passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1.
