Top 15; Best Country for Cyber Security Jobs

Cybersecurity jobs are currently in high demand and will likely remain so for the foreseeable future, which makes them a smart career choice.

As more and more companies move towards fully digital and automated processes, it means more of their sensitive information is being stored and shared online.

And while digital is more convenient, it also puts companies at higher risk of being exposed to cyber security threats

Now, companies all over the world are starting to experience an increase in cyber attacks, which means they are putting more effort into protecting their proprietary information by upping their cybersecurity measures.

The more advanced cyber threats become, the more companies will need to hire cybersecurity professionals to keep their data and the data of their customers safe.

Unlike certain careers, cybersecurity is an industry that is growing in many areas of the world.

However, not every location is created equal. If anything, there may be certain aspects of different areas of the world that may affect your experience.

According to a study conducted by Techshielder, the following countries are the best for cybersecurity due to a variety of measurable factors, including job availability indexes, average salary, and cost of living calculations.

So, let’s take a look at the best country for cyber security jobs.

For those interested in pursuing a career in cybersecurity, here are some of the best countries across the globe for it.

Best Country for Cyber Security Jobs

  1. United States
  2. Singapore
  3. Germany
  4. Luxembourg
  5. Belgium
  6. Canada
  7. Austria
  8. England
  9. Saudi Arabia
  10. Japan
  11. Brazil
  12. Columbia
  13. Portugal
  14. Spain
  15. Italy

1. United States

Top of the list is the U.S. — thanks in large part to the abundance of cybersecurity jobs available in Washington, D.C. As the capital of the United States and home to most government agencies, a significant number of cybersecurity professionals are employed in the area.

Of course, the U.S. as a whole is home to numerous other companies in a wide range of industries that also offer cybersecurity positions to help keep their data safe and secure.

Overall, the United States ranks as number one for cybersecurity jobs due to its 7.17 job availability index and average salary of around £84,628.

2. Singapore

Singapore comes in second place because though the average salary is lower, it has the most cybersecurity jobs available. This makes it ideal for recent graduates who perhaps care a little less about making a ton of money upfront and instead just want to be able to get their foot in the door to gain more experience.

For cybersecurity jobs, Singapore has a job availability index of 10 and an average salary of £55,577.

3. Germany

Germany comes in third as one of the best countries for cybersecurity careers because of a combination of job availability, salary, and cost of living.

The country has a much lower job availability index compared to the first two, at 3.18, but it offers a decent average salary for cybersecurity jobs at £70,142. Germany also has a much more affordable cost of living, which means your salary will get you more there than it would in Singapore or the United States.

4. Luxembourg

Luxembourg is in fourth place for cybersecurity jobs because it has a high cost of living and low job availability — but it makes up for that with the highest average pay. The job availability index is 1.58, the cost of living is around £2,562, and the average salary is £110,768.

So, if you don’t mind having to potentially fight harder for a job, the salary in Luxembourg for cybersecurity professionals can make it well worth it.

5. Belgium

Similar to Germany, Belgium also has a low job availability index, but it makes up for it with decent average pay and a low cost of living.

And as Brussels is the most populated city in Belgium, this means it’s the best place in the country to find work in cybersecurity as it is home to some bigger companies.

The job availability index for cybersecurity jobs in Belgium sits at 1.96, the average pay is £75,564, and the average cost of living is one of the lowest at £1,886.

6. Canada

A lot of people travel to Canada for study opportunities and job opportunities. It’s a pretty easy place to live and doesn’t have too high of a cost of living, with an average rent of around £1,970.

Comparably, it ranks right around the middle of the top ten countries for cybersecurity because, in addition to its lower cost of living, it offers a good average pay of £70,061 and an okay job availability index of 2.21.

7. Austria

If you’re looking for good pay and affordable housing, Austria might be the way to go. It has a lower job availability index for cybersecurity positions at 1.59, but it pays around £72,340 on average and rent is around £1,858.

This makes Austria a reasonably safe bet if you are looking for a cybersecurity job because, like Canada and Belgium, it hovers right around the middle because it pays well, and you won’t spend as much on housing.

8. England

England has a unique spot on the list. It has the third highest job availability index, at 5.30, which makes it seem like it should rank higher. But the problem is that the country also has one of the highest costs of living, particularly in London, which is where most of the cybersecurity jobs are.

In London, you can expect a decent average wage for a cybersecurity career at around £74,416, but you can also expect to pay over £3,000 for rent on average.

9. Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has the lowest cost of living in the top ten countries for cybersecurity jobs. So if you need affordable housing, this is a place to keep in mind. The average rent is around £1,211.

However, the country also ranks low for job availability and average pay. The job availability index for Saudi Arabia is 1.18 and the average salary for cybersecurity is only £43,281.

10. Japan

Coming in tenth place is Tokyo, Japan, which may come as a surprise as the country is well known for technology and innovation.

The issue is the low job availability and the high cost of living. The pay, however, is higher than most of the other countries offer, which is why the country does still rank in the top ten.

For cybersecurity jobs, Japan has a job availability index of 1.14, a cost of living at around £2,219, and an average salary of £84,915.

11. Brazil

These last few countries on the list didn’t make the top ten but are worth noting because they offer the highest amount of remote cybersecurity jobs.

Remote work is increasing in popularity as workers seek to live more balanced and flexible lives, so if that sounds like something you want, these next five countries are worth considering.

Brazil comes in first for remote cybersecurity positions, because of all the jobs available, 22% offer remote work as an option.

Overall, there are around 165 cybersecurity jobs available n Brazil on average, and around 37 of them offer remote positions.

12. Columbia

Columbia is next in line for remote cybersecurity positions, with 21% of the available jobs offering remote options.

There are about 42 positions in total, 9 of which are remote. Columbia is also an ideal country for remote working as the weather is pleasant, and there are a number of excellent coffee shops that serve a top-notch cup of joe.

13. Portugal

Portugal comes in third for remote work, with 16% of available cybersecurity jobs offering remote positions. There are 259 cybersecurity jobs available, with 42 offering remote working options. Portugal is also a great option because of its warm weather, but also for its low cost of living.

14. Spain

Spain gets the next spot but is essentially tied with Portugal, with 16% of the cybersecurity jobs available offering remote options. There are 388 jobs in total, 59 of which are remote. If you opt for Spain, you can also expect a very reasonable cost of living, some amazing food options, and a welcoming community.

15. Italy

In last place, we have Italy, though it also technically ties in with Portugal and Spain.

16% of the cybersecurity jobs in Italy offer remote options, with 1,096 available in total and 170 being remote.

And if the culture, food, and wine weren’t already a major draw for Italy, they also now offer special visas for remote workers and digital nomads.

Conclusion

Traveling to a new country offers an abundance of new experiences in addition to cybersecurity job opportunities. The countries listed above are certainly worth doing more research on to see if they have the right cybersecurity job for you, but traveling also offers you more opportunities to learn more about yourself and about new cultures, which can improve your growth and job skills in the long run.
