WHY THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO APPLY AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

The Corona Virus pandemic has been a major impediment in the world’s University educational system. Most governments of the world have temporarily engaged in closure of the educational institutions in order to scale down the spread of corona virus.

You may have been turned down by most colleges in the US over the years, how about a try now? There is an increased acceptance rate and a possibility of tuition cuts.

ESTIMATE OF STUDENTS AFFECTED BY THE CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC

It has been estimated that over 1.2 billion students are out of classrooms.

In order to keep the students engaged, e-learning and digital platforms have become a resort.

CURRENT ACCEPTANCE RATE OF UNIVERSITIES IN THE US

A lot of universities in the US over the years have a 100% acceptance rate. However others have a low acceptance rate . Research has proven that there is a little addition in the acceptance rate of these universities. For instance, University of Oxford had its 2019-2020 admission and acceptance rate to be 17.5%. For 2020-2021, its admission and acceptance rate is placed at 18%. This can be compared to other institutions according to their various acceptance rates.

EFFECT OF THE INCREASE IN ACCEPTANCE RATE

The increase in the acceptance rate of universities gives more chance for international students to apply. Enrolment could be as high as 15% according to Brookings Institution study. The high acceptance rate is all targeted towards attracting students to the institutions.

REASON FOR THE RISE IN ACCEPTANCE RATE

The Corona virus has devastated the economy around the world and disrupted life in ways that were unimaginable. With incoming freshmen having a rethink on their options which is likely due to their inability to enter the US at a time like this. Universities however are desperate to hit their enrolment numbers for the 2020-2021 academic year. This is because at the end of the day, the tuition target of these institutions needs to be met.

As obvious as it may seem, the Ivy league schools might have no problems hitting their targets but the private universities will be a harder hit.

Financial blows are raining down on institutions which will likely force them out of business. For instance the university of Michigan anticipates losses of about $400 million to $1 billion this year.

LIKELY TUITION CUTS DUE TO CORONA VIRUS

The drop in tuition incomes by universities might force cuts in what schools can charge for Tuition. These institutions might be pressured to offer online

instructions at a lower net cost.

MEASURES BY THE CENTRE FOR DISEASE CONTROL TO PUT STUDENTS BACK TO SCHOOL

Universities in the US have put in place measures to effect safe school resumption . These measures were put in place by the Centre for disease Control.
